TBTDS-5A is designed referring to ASTM D3080 & AASHTO T236 Standard Test Method for Direct Shear Test of Soils Under Consolidated Drained Conditions, BS 1377-7 Methods of test for Soils for civil engineering purposes -Part 7: Shear strength tests (total stress) and EN ISO 17892-10 Geotechnical investigation and testing - Laboratory testing of soil - Part 10: Direct shear tests.
It can be used to perform consolidation & shearing phase of a standard direct shear & residual shear test under automatic speed control. The system consists of a micro stepper motor to apply horizontal shear load to the soil specimen, at user-input shearing rate. The shear force readings are obtained from the proving ring at specified intervals of horizontal displacement shown on the touch screen display. Incorporated with limit sensors to prevent shearbox from over-travel at forward or reverse motions.
